FMI/PROCAFTA Sponsor Conference on Public Private Partnerships for Renewable Energy in Nicaragua

FMI’s USAID-funded PROCAFTA project sponsored a conference to explore opportunities for partnerships between the public and private sectors to develop renewable energy projects in Nicaragua. U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua Paul Trivelli and Nicaraguan Vice President Jaime Morales Carazo opened the conference. FMI renewable energy expert Carlos Yermoli presented his analysis of the local energy sector and offered recommendations to support public-private financing of geothermal, win, and hydroelectric energy alternatives.

In attendance were the leaders from the Nicaragua private sector, Government of Nicaragua and USAID officials, local and regional renewable energy development firms, and members of the media. The conference was also sponsored by the Fundación Nicaragüense para el Desarrollo Económico y Social (FUNIDES) and with the Consejo Superior de la Empresa Privada (COSEP). It was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of the American People to the people of Nicaragua through the United States Agency for International Development.
